My rates for language services
My usual rate for translation is EUR 0.09 per word for European clients, or USD 0.12 per word (or a market-related rate) for non-European clients. I accept payment in most currencies.
General translation rates
The table below details my usual rates for translation (including back-translation, and software and web site translation), between English and Afrikaans.
|Currency / client location||Per source word||Minimum rate|
Revision rates (incl editing, proofreading, QM)
Different clients prefer to pay for revision using different rates. Some clients pay per hour, others pay per source word. The rate for revision also depends on the nature of the job -- whether it is PDF proof reading, proofreading of translations, or editing.
|Currency||Per source word||Or, per hour||Minimum rate|
Methods of payment accepted
I am flexible when it comes to methods of payment, although I prefer Moneybookers.com. Different clients pay at different cycles, and I believe a translator should be flexible enough to allow for that.
|PayPal||PayPal is my preferred method of payment for non-EU clients. The account is in USD, EUR and GBP, but any currency is accepted.|
|Bank transfer: IBAN, SWIFT||This is an EU bank account. Any currency accepted.|
|Skrill/Moneybookers||The account is in EUR, but any currency is accepted.|
|Bank transfer: EFT||South African clients may pay into my South African bank account.|
|Cheque||Not preferred, only as last resort, only for large amounts. Any currency accepted. To cash a cheque in the Netherlands carries a transaction fee for me of €60.00 per cheque (I'm not kidding).|
|Western Union||Not preferred, only as last resort. Any currency accepted.|
|Cash / in natura||Only by agreement.|
